The John Bunyan Community Boat is run by volunteers to raise funds for our parent organisation the Bedford & Milton Waterways Trust, who promote the development of a waterway park between Bedford and Milton Keynes.
Every season the John Bunyan Boat carries over 6,000 passengers in a mix of cruises including Music, Fish & Chip, Private Charters, Educational, Special Events and many more. The smooth running takes about 4,500 water based crew hours, and 4,500 land based crew hours per season from a variety of people and skills.
Every volunteer brings different skills providing the organisation with a wide range of experience that it can draw on. Many volunteers also join to learn new skills as well as offering their existing skills, and we have many different opportunities allowing volunteers to gain skills in areas such as; Hospitality, Deck Crew, Marketing & Sales, Helming, First Aid, Water Safety and becoming a Maritime & Coastguard Agency Boatmaster. Full training is provided from both internal and external agencies, and we offer volunteer social events throughout the year.
